 A Hindu wedding ceremony comprises various rituals that involves not only intimate family members but other relatives and friends too of the bride as well as the groom. Haldi ceremony in wedding home is one of the colourful traditional rituals. it has a great importance. Haldi ceremony is also known as Halad ceremony, Tel Baan, Manjha ceremony, Pithi ceremony etc.

 


  What is Haldi Ceremony? 

 This ritual is held at both, bride's house and also at the groom's house. It involves applying Haldi or turmeric paste on the couple's face, hands and on complete body. It is celebrated either on the morning of the wedding day or a day before. All nearer and dearer are eager to be a part of this fun ceremony.

 

 Why to Apply Haldi? 

Applying Haldi on the bride and groom before their wedding has been a prominent ritual in the Indian culture. However it is an age-old tradition that is being followed and there is a special reason behind use of Haldi Paste.

 

1. Natural Antiseptic – Turmeric 

Turmeric or Haldi is known for its medicinal properties as well as for being antiseptic. It has been part of most religious events and holy ceremonies for the centuries. Curcumin, a yellow pigment has been used for centuries as an ingredient for various medicinal preparations, widely used in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine. In recent decades “Curcumin” is used as an Antiseptic. This unique property in Haldi prevents the formation of pimples and acne on the skin. It creates the radiance and makes to shine, it helps in getting rid of dead pores and dead skin cells. When the paste is rinsed off, it removes the useless epidermis and makes the skin detoxified

Once the Haldi is applied on the bride and groom are usually not allowed to move from their place, till their wedding function.

 

6. Sacred colour  

The yellow colour of turmeric is considered very auspicious as per Indian tradition. It is said that yellow is perfect for the new couple who are hoping to start a life full of prosperity. This is why, in many cultures the bride, groom and family and friends wear yellow clothes on their wedding day as well.



7. Paramount ceremony 

On Haldi ceremony a loud music is being played, family members and friends wear yellow custom clothes, everyone applies Haldi paste on each other and enjoy Haldi ceremony, the light yellow tint on everyone’s face creates holy atmosphere at wedding place.



8. Source of Raw Haldi 

Organic genuine good quality rhizomes of Haldi are procured from directly from turmeric farm or from spices market. These rhizomes are soaked in water for overnight and cut into small pieces and dried. Pieces are ground to a fine powder by using stone hand grinders according to the different traditions in respective states in India

 




 

9. Haldi Paste for  Haldi ceremony 

Consider using clean utensils to prepare even and creamy Haldi Powder  Take two tablespoon Haldi powder and one tablespoon  Chandan (Sandal wood) powder (Gram flour can be used) and mix thoroughly for a minute. Add sufficient Milk /Rose water/ water slowly to by gentle mixing with spoon or fingers to make creamy & desired consistency, 5 to 10 ml of olive oil or coconut oil can be used for stain free Haldi Mix. Enjoy the Haldi blessing ceremony with your loving elders and young ones

Remove the application with cotton swab and wash thoroughly or wash directly with lukewarm water with gentle soap. Apply gentle moisturizer (if required) and enjoy the confident & glowing pretty tone of skin and get ready for wedding ceremony.
